PACKAGING AND STORAGE CONDITIONS PRIOR TO DELIVERY

Melrose exercises close control over the production and storage of company products to ensure that the rate of ambient humidity is ideal.

Melrose flooring boards are packaged in cardboard boxes that temporarily protect the wood from abrupt changes in temperature and humidity during transportation. Melrose also envelops the box loads of wood flooring ordered by each dealer in plastic wrapping to limit transfer of humidity to the wood.

It is also preferable to store the boxes of flooring boards in a climate-controlled warehouse until final delivery. If the boxes are stored in an environment where humidity rates are higher than normal, the cardboard will absorb the excess humidity and transfer it to the wood. On the other hand, a warehouse that is overheated or too dry will case the MC of the wood to go down.

Enough space should be left around each pile of boxes of flooring boards to ensure sufficient aeration. Place the boxes on skids to enhance air circulation. Never place the boxes directly on the warehouse floor.

The dealer who makes certain that warehouse conditions are ideal for storing prefinished flooring will never become party to a claim filed by a customer. To avoid further problems, the dealer should make sure that conditions at the customer's location are ideal at the time of delivery and during installation. Consult the procedure to follow when delivering Melrose flooring.
